Description: In the late 1700s, farmland became more expensive in the area around the Potomac. Early settlers started moving to Loudoun County at that time. Since then, Loudoun has kept to its farming roots, and restaurants in the area enjoy the ability to get local produce and of course, local wines.

As we drive through Loudoun, guests will enjoy the scenery while learning about and tasting wines. With over 30 wineries in the area, we have specifically chosen our favorites to showcase to the group. Our knowledgeable tour guide will lead the group around the area while teaching them about the area’s history, culture, foods, and fine wines.

Stone Tower Winery: 2:45PM-3:45PM

When Michael and Kristi Huber inherited the 1400 acre family estate about three decades ago, they looked into the land records and found records dating back to the Civil War marking the land as unsuitable for traditional farming. However, they found that the land on Hogback Mountain, just outside Leesburg, was ideally suited for growing grapes.

Working with a team of renowned viticulturists, soil specialists, and oenologists, French Entave certified grapes were planted in 7 different varietals. Stone Tower has won a number of awards, helping to put Virginia wine on the world map.

The group will enjoy the wine tasting in their beautiful Harvest Barn.

Zephaniah Winery: 4:00PM-5:00PM

The inspiration for Zephaniah winery came about as the proprieter immersed himself in the wine and culture during a family trip through Italy. The Hatch family has farmed in Loudoun for 62 years and three generations, and they now offer award-winning small batch wines.

From these years on the farm, the family has grown to understand the land. They work to honor the land we love and to preserve its productivity and integrity.

The group will enjoy a full wine tasting paired with chocolates with the owner’s family while in their stately 1930s home.

Return to Lansdowne Resort: 5:30PM
